Foster A Love of Reading in Children

        Reading activities are very full of benefits, so it must be instilled early. Various strategies are carried out by parents to make their children like reading. Not infrequently we meet children who are still very young forced by their parents to go to tutoring to learn calistung (learning to read, write, and arithmetic), with the right tutor of course this method will work. Because reading is a window to the world and the habit of reading is a habit that is not easy to become a culture. Therefore, it requires a little more effort from parents so that children have a good culture for their future provisions. Various ways for parents to foster a sense of pleasure in reading in their children can be easily found through various media. for tips so that children can easily love reading books is very easy. simply by doing simple things and does not require a lot of money and effort. as for them is to introduce reading books as early as possible which can be done in various ways. Besides that, visiting the library is also very easy. Moreover, the current library is designed with a very attractive architecture and interior so that the reading room looks more attractive. all of which are very easy for parents to do. And of course, there are many other easy ways. for that, see some of the descriptions.

        To build the children interest in book, parents should introduce book in their early age. Based on the data mentioned by kamsul (2014) stated that the quality of human resources in Indonesia is still low and is experiencing a process of decline from year to year. From a quote taken from the United Nations Development Program in 2000, it was reported that Indonesia’s Human Development Index was ranked 109th out of 174 countries in the world. Therefore, we can overcome this by introducing the culture of reading from an early age to children in whatever environment they are in. For example, at home, we can do this by telling our children's books with interesting sentences and expressions. And another way we can take our children go to a bookstore. Instead of taking the children to go refreshing, but also to introduce new places, understand that a bookstore offers many books that are appealing by visually and functional. And because children's imaginations are easily formed, invite children to communicate a lot. One of the things we can do as parents is to invite children to something interesting about reading. For example, by regularly reading stories before sleep. There are many benefits that can be obtained from this activity. Based on the article Redaksi Halodoc with the title “7 Manfaat Mendongengkan Anak Sebelum Tidur” which writes that the benefits of storytelling for children before sleep such as improving children's speaking skills, enriching new vocabulary in children, fostering interest in reading in children, and so on.

        After the children are able to read, it is hoped that they will try to find out the contents without waiting for a story to be told. In time, the child will be interested in reading. As the children's interest in reading begins to grow, then take them to the library and acquaint them with various types of books. This is a chance for parents to know what books are appealing to them. Of course, the books in the library can provide flexibility for children to choose the books they want with the availability of a comfortable and quiet reading place. After tired of reading or the child shows bored, then give them time to break. A break is necessary since reading a book continuously will lead to decreasing interest. In some libraries there are programs that attract visitors to come, one of which is a free tutoring program such as the Surabaya language center located in the city hall library. The guidance program offered is related to language. In this program we are taught lesson from writing, reading, to communicating according to the interests of the language we want to learn. Without age limit, anyone can start this tutoring program, including children. Other than at home, participating learning programs for your children can raise confidence and improve speaking skills. Additionally, various activities in the library can help children to grow, so as parents we must keep up-to-date with news relating to important information that can help children grow. Keep children busy with useful activities.

        Next, we will discuss how to form reading habits in children who have shown an interest in reading. According to Maharani (2017) which states that interest does not just exist in a person but arises because of experience and efforts to develop it. And the characteristics of children who like to read are also mentioned in his research, including the feeling of pleasure when children read, being interested in something that has to do with reading activities, for example being interested in books or writing or so on, putting full concentration while reading, and often doing this activity is reading. Therefore, if the child has shown some of the characteristics that have been mentioned, then prepare their own collection book for beginning at home. The goal is to put a sense of responsibility in the child for the ownership of his own book. In addition to preparing a reading area at home, make the reading area as comfortable as possible and as much as possible follow the design of the room or interior according to the child's wishes, which is of course within reasonable limits and the ability of parents. And if everything has been done as desired, it is better not to leave the child while he is in the process. Always accompany and provide direction as best you can, this aims to make children feel comfortable when there are people who accompany them. Besides that it will also be useful for parents because they can know the growth and development of children in reading and other skills.

        Parents are the main key to success for their children. a house where the first learning place for children is conditioned as much as possible as a comfortable learning place. To form good habits, one of which is reading, parents need a good introduction. Great efforts are needed to increase children's interest in reading. not big in terms of material or business. However, from the intention and tenacity of parents to educate their children. for now, maybe the benefits that are felt have not been felt when the child was at an early age, but the formation of a good character in the future will also open up good opportunities and always increase as the child ages.
